A couple of days ago ORCA and local volunteers cleaned the closest beach from rubbish. The beach is sometimes filled with plastic bags and other rubbish, it gets so bad that instead of walk in water you could walk in plastic. This is a big problem for marine mammals, sea birds and other organisms living in or close to the ocean , they are dying of eating rubbish or because they get stuck in the plastic. The plastic bags are probably coming from the fishermen because the plastic is always around the bay where they have their boats.
Even if our work just have a short time effect it is at least something and people see that we care plus it looked much better afterwards.
Another thing ORCA has done is to take a sample from the ocean. In the start of every weekend foam is coming from the ocean and in to the beach. The foam is coming from people that is cleaning their boats with biodegradable detergent. The sample we made showed that the water foam was filled with nitrogen. The problem with the nitrogen is that the molecules are binding toxins and make them stay in the ocean.
Both Ronda and Ron is doing fine. Ron is eating a lot and growing and Ronda is getting closer to her release. So hopefully I will put up some photos from that soon.
